SCHEDULE

COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Department of Diagnostic Radiology of Rush University Medical Center announces
its Thirty-Fourth Annual Course on Computed Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging
of the Brain, Head, Neck and Spine. The course will be held at the Omni Chicago
Hotel on November 1st and 2nd, 2007. Some members of the original
1974 faculty will be participating.
The course will provide instruction in the performance and interpretation of selected
CT and MR examinations of the brain, head, neck, and spine. Course material will
include both CT and MR images and, where applicable, will present comparisons between
the two techniques. It is recommended that course registrants familiarize themselves
in advance with the basic physical principles of CT and MR imaging. These topics
will be addressed only insofar as they pertain to particular clinical situations.
Instruction will be provided by members of the
Rush Medical College Faculty as well as by many individuals from other institutions
who represent an extensive experience with both computed tomography and magnetic
resonance imaging. The target audience for the course is Diagnostic Radiologists,
Neurologists, Neurosurgeons, Otolaryngologists, Orthopedic Spine Surgeons, Engineers,
Administrators, Technicians, Technical Representatives, Radiologic Nurses, Health
Planners, Fellows, and Residents.
OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:
-
Recognize
the earliest radiologic and clinical signs of hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke and
recommend appropriate further diagnostic or therapeutic interventions.
-
Select
and administer non-invasive imaging from a remote location in lieu of more hazardous
invasive diagnostic procedures.
-
Recognize
the radiological findings that represent the underlying pathological changes in
the central nervous system due to HIV infection and other immune related, infectious,
and metastatic diseases.
-
State
the indications for newer functional brain and spine imaging studies such as diffusion-weighted
imaging, perfusion imaging, tractography, and MR spectroscopy and CSF flow studies.
-
Distinguish
between normal and pathological imaging findings in cystic brain diseases, vascular
lesions, common infectious, neoplastic, degenerative and
brain, spinal, and otolaryngological diseases.
-
Distinguish
between normal and abnormal findings on post-operative imaging studies of the sinuses,
neck, and spine.
-
Select
appropriate imaging studies for examining the above areas based on clinical indications.
-
Identify
new techniques that are replacing or enhancing traditional neuroimaging methods.
-
Formulate
rational strategies for the acquisition of neuroradiological imaging equipment.
-
Report
radiological findings in astrocytomas using the full armamentarium of available
imaging studies including diffusion, perfusion, and MR spectroscopy and tractography.
