The Interventional Radiology section is comprised of board certified physicians who have established a national and international reputation, authored numerous journal articles and textbooks, and serve on numerous national committees.
Our IR physicians are dedicated to the treatment of medical conditions using minimally invasive techniques, the majority of which can be performed on an outpatient basis or require at most a 23 hour observational stay. They are committed to providing quality patient care utilizing and promoting innovation in image-guided therapies.
The IR section has an active outpatient clinic and consulting service as well as an inpatient admitting service. Our staff is dedicated to providing the best patient experience - from our friendly, personalized approach in our clinics to our engagement in research for better, more cost-effective therapies. For our referring physicians, we offer the best in customer service, with 24/7 availability and a courteous ancillary staff consisting of schedulers and nurse practitioners.
The IR section offers procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of diseases , utilizing and promoting innovative image-guided therapies. Our IR physicians have considerable depth of expertise, performing more than 7,500 procedures annually. The following are the services that IR provides that will be most useful to referring physicians:
- Diagnostic angiography for pulmonary embolism, mesenteric ischemia, gastrointestinal bleeding, peripheral arterial disease (claudication, rest pain, non-healing ulcers), aneurysms, vasculitis, trauma
- Peripheral vascular disease ? angioplasty, stent placement, covered stent placement, stent grafts for aneurysms (abdominal aorta, thoracic aorta, other locations)
- Carotid stenting for restenosis of carotid endarterectomy site or high risk surgery patients
- Renal artery angioplasty and stenting for renal hypertension or renal insufficiency
- Celiac and Superior Mesenteric Artery angioplasty and stenting for mesenteric ischemia
- Thrombolytic therapy for acute limb ischemia, mesenteric ischemia, occluded bypass grafts
- Embolization procedures: uterine arteries for uterine fibroids, acute GI bleeding (upper or lower), iatrogenic bleeds, pre-operative tumor (primary and metastatic), bronchial artery for hemoptysis
- Treatment of arteriovenous malformations (AVM's)
- Tumor therapy ? embolization, chemoembolization, radiofrequency ablation, alcohol ablation
- Pre-op embolization for tumor resection (axial or appendicular skeleton including sacrum & pelvis)
- Central venous access (triple lumen catheters, dialysis catheters, pheresis catheters, hickman catheters, ports)
- Thrombolytic therapy for extensive iliofemoral deep vein thrombosis, venous thrombosis of the upper arms and Superior vena cava
- Ovarian vein embolization for pelvic congestion syndrome
- Varicocele embolization for pain or male infertility
- Dialysis access interventions
- Portal hypertension ? transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt, variceal embolization
- Varicose vein therapy: sclerosis and saphenous vein ablation
- Venous sampling: renal vein, adrenal vein
- Vena caval filter placement (permanent and retrievable)
